The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Mr P. Prince, the rider of SING ALANA SING, unplaced, from entering the back straight. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip with excessive frequency, and when out of contention. As the offence warranted a suspension at the upper level, the Stewards suspended Prince for 7 days, on dates to be notified by the British Horseracing Authority.

The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Mr John Willey, the rider of MIEREVELD, placed second, from turning out of the back straight. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip with excessive frequency. As the offence warranted a suspension at the lower level, the Stewards suspended Willey for 2 days, on dates to be notified by the British Horseracing Authority.

The Stewards held an enquiry into the use of the whip by Lee Newman, the rider of MAGILINI (IRE), placed second, from two and a half furlongs out. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he used his whip with excessive frequency. As the offence warranted a suspension at the upper level, the Stewards suspended Newman for 5 days as follows: Tuesday, 21 to Saturday, 25 February.

The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, LAURA’S BAIRN, ridden by Frederik Tylicki, and trained by J.R. Jenkins, compared with its previous run at Southwell on 1 January, where the colt finished last of five, beaten 22 1/4 lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that the colt had been dropped back to a five furlong trip and had benefitted from a long break prior to its penultimate run. They ordered LAURA’S BAIRN to be routine tested.

The Stewards noted that the winner LAURA’S BAIRN, had interfered with CHATEAU LOLA, unplaced, who in interfered with CLARETINTHEBLOOD (IRE), placed third, who in turn interfered with HEIDI’S DELIGHT (IRE) placed fourth, who in turn interfered with TUIBAMA (IRE) unplaced, shortly after the Start, but after viewing a video recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved LAURA’S BAIRN’s placing.

The Stewards noted that BOND STYLE, placed second, had interfered with the winner JERICHO (IRE), immediately upon leaving the stalls, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.

The Stewards noted that PIPERS PIPING (IRE), placed second, had interfered with MASTER OF DANCE (IRE), placed third, which in turn interfered with the winner PATRIOTIC (IRE), inside the final furlong, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved PIPERS PIPING (IRE)’s placing.

The Stewards interviewed Joe Fanning, the rider of MACY ANNE (IRE), which finished second, beaten half a length, and asked him to explain his riding in the final furlong. The rider explained that the filly, on this, her second racecourse appearance, ran green, hanging right in the home straight. He added that when he eased his mount approaching the line, she was a neck down on the winner and would not have finished significantly closer for more vigorous riding. Having viewed the video recording, the Stewards noted this explanation.

The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why Jamie Mackay, the rider of CLONE DEVIL (IRE), unplaced, had appeared not to keep straight from the stalls. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the start they accepted his explanation that his mount had jumped to the left when leaving the stalls.

The Stewards noted that SPEEDI MOUSE, placed fourth had interfered with AGLAJA, unplaced, in the home straight, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved SPEEDI MOUSE’s placing.
